Established in 1976, Squire and Partners is an AJ100 architecture and design practice with a global reputation for architecture informed by the history and culture of where it is placed. Embracing traditional and emerging technologies in craft and construction, the award-winning practice is renowned for delivering a rigorously detailed product.

The challenge

In January 2020, Stephen Lloyd, IT Director at Squire and Partners wanted to progress the studio’s Microsoft and cloud strategy. His objective was to replace legacy infrastructure, reduce IT management overhead and improve business continuity capabilities. Impressed by Bistech’s strong reputation in the architecture industry, initial discussions took place and a roadmap was developed collaboratively. Then in March, with the onset of Covid-19, the goalposts changed and business continuity became imperative.

The solution

With an urgent requirement to enable 250 users to work from home securely and productively, Bistech swiftly designed an agile solution that would provide the GPU power essential for architecture models and applications, while integrating the practice’s file sharing platform.

The benefits

With the pandemic making remote working mission critical, the Bistech team worked tirelessly to get the solution up and running quickly, enabling the entire business to work from home efficiently and securely.

As well as addressing business continuity, the new solution also supports the practice’s long-term strategy to decrease hardware dependency. As a result, it will gradually adopt a Modern Desktop environment that will reduce IT effort, enhance security and deliver the agility the practice needs to adapt, survive and thrive in an ever-changing world.
