Another year, another brilliant group of students. We were thrilled to be back at Parkstone Grammar School and Bournemouth University last week talking to talented individuals keen to start their career in the tech industry. Not to mention, we attended the BCP Careers and Apprenticeship Show at the Bournemouth International Centre for the first time too.

Our HR team, Chloe, James, and Lucy — with a guest appearance from Lauren in Commercial — set out to answer questions about heading into the world of work. From placements to graduate and trainee roles, there are many ways to begin your journey, and it was great to see so many students studying a range of subjects who were eager to learn more.

Throughout these events, we noticed three themes that kept coming up, so here’s our advice:

1. What can you do in an interview to set yourself apart?
   It’s simple — be yourself! Your CV, cover letter, and application form do the talking when it comes to your skills. So, in your interview, we’d like to learn more about you: tell us about your ambitions and what drives you. And make sure you’ve done your research. This allows you to ask questions that help you find the right role and company.
2. What careers do you offer?
   Being in the tech industry, we offer a wide variety of technical roles, from Software Development to Technical Support. But we have our business functions, including Sales, Accounts, Commercial, Marketing, and HR too. We also offer progression pathways into areas like Project Management, Business Intelligence, and Products and Services to name a few. So, with the training and support provided, you can build a rewarding, long-term career with us in a route that makes sense for you.
3. Where are you based?
   We’re in Ferndown! We have a wide variety of gyms, shops, and restaurants on our doorstep and are just a stone’s throw away from the sandy beaches of Bournemouth with the New Forest right around the corner. We have a large car park, plenty of bike storage, and a bus stop right outside too, so no matter your method of travel, we’re easily accessible.
